Overview

TextWise developed the first scalable, automated, semantic similarity search technology enabling the web to move from matching keywords to a meaning-based foundation.  TextWise’s semantic technology would enable major search/content players to index, match and retrieve disparate content and enable other applications that leverage the meaning of content.  Indexing content with semantic descriptions enables any application to both discern what the content is about and to provide highly relevant matching, concept tagging and categorization.

TextWise holds a significant patent portfolio in extraction, search, categorization and classification using both NLP and statistics. TextWise is headquartered in Rochester, New York, has 25 employees and is VC funded.

Where We've Been

We've come a long way in our short history. Here is an overview of where we've been:

  • Semantic Similarity Search (2005-Present)
    • Application prototype development - matching related content.
      • Matching related blogs and news with Web content. See foof.
    • SemanticHacker API to allow developers access to our Similarity Search tools and technology.
    • Contextual Merchandising - matching ads to web pages.
  • Government contracting (1994-2005)
    • As a spinoff from a top university's linguistics lab, we fueled our growth by working with the intelligence community building smart linguistic applications. See some of that work at TextWise Labsand CINDOR
